BlindFest 2015 is here! Join us for five fun-filled days as we raise awareness of vision loss. From July 20 to July 24, folks in both Edmonton and Calgary are invited to celebrate the accomplishments of the thousands of independent, mobile, engaging, thoughtful and fun Albertans who also happen to live with blindness or partial sight.

Monday, July 20
Edmonton – BlindFest Kick-off
11:30 AM to 1:30 PM

It’s the BlindFest 2015 launch! Join us for refreshments, live jazz music by Ruth Blais and Friends, appearances by elected officials, and insights from special guest Tamara Gaudet – an author and award-winning speaker who also has vision loss. Calgary – BlindFest Kick-off

BlindFest is taking over Calgary, too! We’re pleased to announce Mayor Naheed Nenshi’s attendance, and special guest speaker Bob Fenton who is current Legal Counsel to the Calgary Chief of Police, a former Paralympic swimmer, and has been blind since birth. Calgary – Garden Party

Calling all clients, neighbours, and vision health professionals – we cordially invite you to an evening at CNIB’s fragrant garden. Join us for refreshments, mingling, door prizes, and live music. Grab a prop and capture a memory at the CNIB photo booth, test your garden knowledge in the Name that Flower Contest, or put on a blindfold to experience what it might be like to navigate our uniquely designed garden with vision loss. Edmonton – Dessert and Lighting the High Level
8:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Ezio Faraone Park, River Valley Victoria

Let’s join together to shed light on vision loss! One Cool Cookie food truck will be on-site offering build-your-own ice cream sandwiches. After sweet treats, speeches and visits with friends at Ezio Faraone Park, we’ll walk along an accessible pathway to the High Level Bridge. At nightfall, red and white lights will fill the entire bridge to resemble a white cane – a powerful symbol of mobility and independence for people who are blind or partially sighted. http://bit.ly/1JPs0zw

Friday, July 24
Calgary – Dessert and Lighting Up Langevin
8:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Sien Lok Park, Riverfront Ave and 1 Street Southwest

We’re lighting the path to change in Calgary, too! Pack up your lawn chair and join us for dessert at Sien Lok Park, followed by a group walk to the Langevin Bridge. Using red and white LED lights, the bridge will light up at nightfall to resemble a white cane – a powerful symbol of mobility and independence for people who are blind or partially sighted. http://bit.ly/1IJEzuL

Friday, July 24
Edmonton – The Winspear Centre Presents: Concert in the Dark
7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
The Studio at the Winspear Centre, 4 Sir Winston Churchill Square (102 Avenue Entrance)

This one-of-a-kind experience blends spoken word, multiple genres of music, and a completely dark room to raise awareness of vision loss. The show will feature a number of talented musicians, some of whom are blind or partially sighted. Artists include soul/funk group DS3, folk sensation Erin Kay, award-winning singer-songwriter Julia Nicholson, Asim Chin of CBC Radio fame, and material from Titilope Sonuga – an internationally renowned poet and TEDx. http://bit.ly/1Hhcdmb
