Husky Energy receives the 2016 CNIB Community Partner Award

10/5/2016

(ST. JOHN’S, N.L. – Oct. 5, 2016) Today, during its Annual Community Meeting, CNIB presented Husky Energy with the 2016 CNIB Community Partner Award for its ongoing efforts as a valued partner.

The award recognizes Husky on two fronts, for its leadership in promoting diversity and inclusion, and the company’s contributions to reducing the incidence of vision loss within industry, especially within the young worker population. In 2014, Husky provided a gift of $75,000, over three years, to ensure high school and college students across Newfoundland and Labrador were able to access the Eye Safety Program.

"Our partnership with the CNIB is an opportunity to encourage engagement of people with disabilities in the workforce," said Malcolm Maclean, Senior Vice President of Husky Energy’s Atlantic Region, "It is so important to have a welcoming, collaborative work environment to help strengthen companies and communities."

"In both undertakings Husky has gone above and beyond our expectations," said Deborah Wearn, Provincial Director, CNIB Newfoundland and Labrador.

Since 2005 Husky has contributed to expanding the Diversity and Inclusion initiatives within the company, as well as developing the Eye Safety Program with the CNIB and our partners: WorkplaceNL, Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Optometrists, Newfoundland and Labrador Construction Safety Association and our newest partner, Bluedrop Performance Learning.

Wearn says "the compassionate, empathetic and strong values of Husky are evident in the way it manages and sustains strong community partnerships like ours within the province. Through diversity and inclusion strategies they work with organizations such as ours in creating respectful workplaces, and we are delighted to present them as our 2016 CNIB Community Partner Award recipients."
