Local Programs & Services
Local Services:
The following programs and services are available in New Brunswick. For more information on the range of Programs and Services offered across the country, see the national Programs and Services section.
We’re here for you: You don’t need a doctor’s note to come to CNIB. Through an open referral system, any Canadian may access CNIB’s vision rehabilitation services. Our programs and services are designed to meet the unique needs of children, working-age adults and seniors alike. We are also Canada’s leading source for vision health information.
Registration and Referral: This is the first point of contact for anyone wishing to access CNIB’s programs and services. Our staff works closely with each individual to identify needs and goals, and make referrals to appropriate resources – either within CNIB or with other community agencies.
Career and Employment Services: We provide vocational assessments, help individuals explore career interests, develop employment plans, market to potential employers, and investigate job opportunities and accommodations. As a CNIB client, we can provide assistance in identifying, developing, evaluating and achieving your career goals. We can also conduct assistive technology assessments for employers and suggest adaptive technology to help your employees. CNIB will assess the match between a participant’s employability skills and available jobs.
Consumer Products Support: Our qualified staff provide a unique retail experience in a supportive and interactive environment that allows people with vision loss to become familiar with devices prior to purchase.
Counselling: CNIB’s counselors are on hand to provide support to people as they adjust to vision loss, or the combined loss of hearing and sight.
Independent Living Services: CNIB offers life skills training to help manage the essentials of daily living, with an emphasis on maintaining independence – from safe and effective methods of cooking and doing household tasks such as laundry and cleanup, to communications skills, personal care and banking.
Low Vision Services: CNIB specialists provide functional assessments of visual abilities, information and training in the use of low vision devices, and instruction on how to maximize residual vision.
Orientation & Mobility: Our specialists provide instruction on how to move safely and independently around the home, work, school and community.
