Leading Manitoba doctors make million-dollar mark on CNIB

Photo of Drs. Daya and Chander GuptaDrs. Daya and Chander Gupta are two of Manitoba’s leading medical professionals, faithfully dedicated to the health and wellness of their fellow Manitobans. But in 2010, that dedication reached even greater heights when the couple made an incredibly generous $1 million gift to CNIB.

This significant gift is now supporting CNIB’s low vision program in Manitoba, which provides assistive technology and devices to people who are partially sighted, allowing them to pursue education, careers and the pleasure of reading.

Recognizing the importance of post-secondary education and knowing it can be particularly financially challenging for students who are blind or partially sighted, the Guptas have also designated funds for two annual scholarships to be awarded to Manitobans who are CNIB clients.

"It's a real honour and a great help,” says scholarship recipient Karen Iwaszewski. “The Guptas giving this scholarship is going to help my education and get me on track to pursue an accessible career in the next couple of years.”

In recognition of the doctors’ generosity and passionate commitment to helping Canadians who are blind or partially sighted, the CNIB building in Winnipeg is now called The Drs. Daya and Chander Gupta Centre.

On behalf of over 36,000 Manitobans living with vision loss, sincere thanks is extended to Drs. Daya and Chander Gupta for their generous legacy to CNIB.
