Living With Vision Loss

Accessible Design

Accessible design means your product, service or facility can be used by everyone, regardless of ability. It means dignity, independence and enjoyment for all.

For people with vision loss, accessibility means independence. It means things like being able to:

  • surf a website with the same ease as a sighted person
  • safely navigate an intersection using accessible
pedestrian signals and tactile walking surface indicators
  • order from a braille menu or perform transactions independently at an ATM
  • enjoy a feature film at a theatre along with sighted patrons, using Descriptive Video
  • independently use electronic devices, from stereos to cell phones

Accessible design is not only good manners and good business practice, but in many areas, it's now the law.

Accessible Web Design
The Internet has brought unprecedented opportunity and independence for people living with disabilities yet many Web sites are not created with accessibility in mind.
