Opened in June 2017, the hub is a doors-open, sky’s-the-limit space for participants, staff and volunteers to explore, create and enjoy. Dining in the Dark - Charlottetown March 02, 2018

3/2/2018 6:00 PM

Holland College Culinary Institute

An evening of exceptional food, wine, inspiration and blindfolds...   It’s not unusual to close your eyes and savour a bite of your favourite dish... but have you ever consumed an entire meal that way – replacing sight with touch, taste and texture? Based on a restaurant concept popularized in Paris and New York, Dining in the Dark is a signature CNIB event where diners experience a meal without the use of their sight. Participants wear blindfolds for a unique, sensory experience in which they can explore their meal in a whole new way.   On March 2, 2018, the 8th annual Dining in the Dark will take place at the Holland College Culinary Institute. The evening will include a three-course meal, wine, and of course, blindfolds. Guests will have the chance to bid on extraordinary auction item prizes, and hear from inspiring individuals who will share their experiences living with vision loss. Tickets are $100 each (income tax receipt will be issued for a portion of the ticket price).   All proceeds will help make a lasting difference in the lives of Islanders who are blind or partially sighted.

It’s not unusual to close your eyes to savour a bite of a favourite dish. But have you ever consumed an entire meal that way – replacing sight with touch, taste and texture?   Ignite your senses and join us for an evening of exceptional food, conversation and, of course, blindfolds. CNIB’s sixth annual Dining in the Dark fundraiser is on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at the Delta Fredericton.   This unique three-course dinner features a live auction, silent auction and stories from people in your community who live life to the fullest with vision loss.   Tickets are $75 each or $600 for a table of eight.   Funds raised support CNIB programs and services that help New Brunswickers who are blind or partially sighted to lead independent and active lives, including: •Support children and youth programs•Connect clients to each other for peer support•Match volunteer Vision Mates with individuals who need sighted assistance•Offer social and recreational programs that encourage inclusion and skill development•Promote awareness of CNIB services and vision loss•Provide a place where people who are first experiencing vision loss can go for resources and information   CNIB currently supports 1,100 individuals in the Fredericton region and the number of people with vision loss grows each year.   Over 10,000 New Brunswickers are currently living with vision loss that impacts their day-to-day life and 52,000 have a serious eye condition that may lead to sight loss in the future.
