Political Party: Liberal

Would you and your Party support legislation such as Bill C-65 “Support for Canadians with Print Disabilities Act”, introduced by the last government, that will allow Canada to accede the Marrakesh Treaty?

A Liberal government will support equal access to published works for those who are visually impaired through, among other measures, the implementation of mandatory limitations and exceptions to copyright rules, consistent with principles set out in the Marrakesh Treaty

What would you and your party do to ensure that sustainable funding is in place for the production of alternate format literature for Canadians who are blind or partially sighted?

Liberals are committed to building an accessible and inclusive society for all Canadians. We will work to ensure that organizations such as the CNIB have access to predictable, stable funding in order to achieve their mandate of assisting Canadians with visual disabilities.

What would you and your Party do to close this gap and help those living with vision loss find employment in your community?

The Liberal Party of Canada is committed to giving all Canadians a real and fair chance at success. We will fully implement the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and take substantive action to address the barriers faced by Canadians with disabilities. It is completely unacceptable that more than four years after Canada ratified the Convention, people with disabilities are still waiting for the federal government to follow through with meaningful action.

Do you and your Party agree that prescription drug labels should be accessible for all Canadians, including those who are blind or partially sighted?

It’s important that all Canadians can access vital information regarding their health and wellbeing. I believe federal and provincial governments must work together to better educate pharmacists about recommended guidelines to assist those with vision loss.

If elected, would you and your party work with the Canada Standards Association, individual companies and POS machine providers and manufacturers to ensure that all ABM’s and POS machines are accessible in Canada, including keypads and audio output?

A Liberal government will be dedicated to the service of Canadians first, including programs that ensure inclusivity, equal access, and representation of all Canadians in both our government and our cultural life. We believe the federal government must work in concert with provinces and territories, stakeholder organizations, and regulatory bodies, as well as with Canadians with disabilities and their advocates, to build a truly equal society without barriers to participation
