Name: Adam Vaughan

Constituency: Spadina-Fort York

Political Party: Liberal

Would you and your Party support legislation such as Bill C-65 “Support for Canadians with Print
Disabilities Act”, introduced by the last government, that will allow Canada to accede the Marrakesh Treaty?

A Liberal government will fully implement the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and take substantive action to address the barriers faced by Canadians with disabilities. It is completely unacceptable that more than four years after Canada ratified the Convention, people with disabilities are still waiting for the federal government to follow through with meaningful action. A Liberal government will specifically support equal access to published works for those who are visually impaired through, among other measures, the implementation of mandatory limitations and exceptions to copyright rules, consistent with principles set out in the Marrakesh Treaty. A Liberal government will take Canada’s commitments seriously and our Leader, Justin Trudeau, is committed to ensuring that all Canadians can participate fully in all aspects of Canadian life.

What would you and your party do to ensure that sustainable funding is in place for the production of alternate format literature for Canadians who are blind or partially sighted?

Liberals are committed to building an accessible and inclusive society for all Canadians. A Liberal government will be dedicated to the service of Canadians first, including programs that ensure inclusivity, equal access, and representation of all Canadians in both our government and our cultural life.

Liberals understand the fundamental role that the not-for-profit sector and charities play in both policy development and program delivery for Canadians. The Liberal Party of Canada is committed to renewing the federal government’s partnership with civil society. As a first step, we will put an end to the Canadian Revenue Agency’s political harassment of charities and clarify rules to affirm the important role that charities can and should play in developing and advocating for public policy in Canada.

A Liberal government will also work in partnership with charitable organizations, including the CNIB, to explore more effective ways to provide funding for the important work you do. Our party understands that we must find more effective funding delivery mechanisms to support the not-for-profit sector to achieve accountability while at the same time providing adequate, predictable, and stable funding.

What would you and your Party do to close this gap and help those living with vision loss find employment in your community?
