Sailing on the 6ix: A night of senses

By: Keya Osborne

As we continue the work of changing attitudes about blindness through our strategic plan commitment to “Attitude is Everything," we are highlighting the diverse cultures represented within the blindness community through experiential events.

We are proud to present Sailing on the 6ix - A Night of Senses – the first event in the series that will showcase a cultural experience bringing the celebration of the Caribbean culture to the sight loss community. This event produced “For us, by us,” will explore the tastes, sounds and all cultural nuances of the Caribbean diaspora. Our goal is to create an experience to promote accessibility and inclusion with a boat ride event along the Toronto Harbourfront on Thursday, May 30, from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

This event will bring awareness to the Caribbean community on how to create inclusive spaces for those members of the Caribbean diaspora who are living with vision loss.

Based on the success of this pilot project, the aim is to replicate this experiential event in other provinces and connect with community partners representing diverse cultural groups across the country. Let us keep celebrating the diversity of community groups living with vision loss!

Tickets are $55 and can be purchased from the Sailing on the 6ix ticketing website.
