Meet Larissa Proctor – Guide Dog Gazette, Fall 2023

My name is Larissa Proctor, and I’ve been with CNIB since 2017. As Manager of Guide Dog Advocacy with the CNIB Guide Dogs team, I’ve had the pleasure of empowering guide dog handlers to better understand their rights and break down barriers in our communities. As I transition into my new role as Director of Community Relations and Engagement, I’ll continue to advocate for the rights of guide dog teams in my professional and personal life.

As a first-time guide dog handler, I’m constantly amazed at how much freedom and independence my dog brings to my life. In 2019, I was matched with Piper, an adorable golden retriever CNIB Guide Dog who loves the outdoors, stuffed animals, and blueberries. Since joining forces with Piper, I’ve rediscovered my love of travel and learned there’s nothing better than sprinting through an airport with a furry sidekick. When not planning my next adventure, I love staying active, spending time with family, curling up with a good book, and exploring new vegan recipes.

As we mark the end of this year’s Guide Dog Access Awareness Month campaign, I’d like to thank everyone who helped us raise our voices to break down barriers for guide dog teams across Canada.
