Graduates Corner – Guide Dog Gazette, Fall 2023

Meet our new graduates!

Although the CNIB Guide Dogs’ official graduation ceremony occurs every spring, guide dogs, buddy dogs, and ambassador dog partnerships complete their formal training and graduate throughout the year. Meet the new partnerships we’re celebrating today!

Congratulations to our newest graduates and everyone who had a part in making these partnerships possible.

Guide dog Partnerships:
  • Stela Trudeau graduated with Oscar in April.
  • Cheryl Osten graduated with Sassy in May.

Outside an apartment building, Stela kneels on the ground next to her guide dog, Oscar. Stela smiles and has her arm around Oscar, a black lab in harness.

Buddy Dog partnerships:
  • Emmett Carmichael graduated with Scout in April.
  • Anakha Sharma Thampi graduated with Tosca in June.
  • Nathan Payne graduated with Ryder in July.

Left: Emmett and Scout. On the shorelines of a lake, Emmett kneels on the ground next to his buddy dog, Scout, who is a long-haired golden dog. Emmett smiles and holds his white cane in his right hand and Scout’s leash in his left hand. Centre: Nathan and Ryder. On a front lawn, Nathan stands on the grass next to his buddy dog, Ryder, who is a black lab. Behind Nathan is a giant banner taped to the front porch railing. The banner reads “Welcome, Ryder!” and includes a photograph of Ryder. Right: Anakha and Tosca. On a back porch, Anaksha, a wheelchair user, poses with her buddy dog, Tosca. Tosca is a black lab. Anaksha has her left arm on Tosca’s back, and she smiles.
