“Get on Board” with CNIB’s new advocacy campaign

By: Gabriella Rabaa

As part of our advocacy work to create safe and accessible journeys, we’re gathering testimonials that capture the transit experiences of people with sight loss across Canada, and we want to hear from you!

Take us on your commute! Submit a short video, audio, or written testimonial that documents your transit experiences, good and bad. Give us a firsthand account of what it’s like using transit in your community. Tell us how you plan for travel and what’s involved. Call out any barriers you encounter along the way. Your testimonial may be featured in materials to help advocate for accessible transportation across Canada. Testimonials can be submitted via WeTransfer to cnib-submissions.wetransfer.com.

In October, CNIB will also hit the ground running with our “Get on Board” advocacy campaign, highlighting the many barriers people with sight loss face while using publicly funded fixed-route transit systems. The campaign will include a bus ride-along with people who are blind and local public officials, as well as a “secret shopper” survey for people to report on the barriers they encounter. This data will be presented at a Transit Townhall where stakeholders can discuss their experiences and consider pathways to future improvements.

The locations for our Get on Board Campaign launch are:

  • Edmonton, AB
  • Vancouver, BC
  • Winnipeg, MB
  • Dieppe, NB
  • Corner Brook, NL
  • Sydney, NS
