Local Programs
 
British Columbia: 

  • Children and Youth: A variety of programs are offered for children and youth with vision loss and their families.  

     

  • CNIB Summer Camp Program: Children participate in a unique blend of rehabilitative programs and leisure activities that will encourage healthy lifestyles along with setting goals for future successes. For further information, please call 604-431-2121

 

  • Daily Living Skills Workshops: Are you having difficulty performing everyday tasks like pouring coffee, chopping vegetables, or using your kitchen appliances? Are you getting frustrated dialing the phone, identifying coins, or threading a needle?

 

  • Low Vision Clinics: Funded by the Regional Health Boards, low vision clinics are offered throughout BC CNIB Vision Rehabilitation Specialists conduct one-on-one assessments of individuals’ residual vision and work with family and/or community supports to assist them in becoming as independent as possible. Assessments are offered by appointment only. Individuals who are not registered with CNIB are welcome. To make an appointment, please contact your local CNIB office.

 

  • Peer Support Groups: You are not alone. CNIB currently has peer support groups meeting on a regular basis. This is an opportunity for you to meet with other people who are living with the same kind of challenges and successes that you are.   • Vision Odyssey: CNIB offers two courses to support individuals and their families as they adjust to vision loss.

 

  • Vision Mate Program: People with vision loss are matched with volunteers who assist them with reading, shopping and other activities. To volunteer as a Vision Mate, see Volunteer Opportunities. People with vision loss interested in being matched with a Vision Mate should contact their local CNIB office.

  • Fun and Fitness Seniors’ Group: This group meets weekly at CNIB to exercise and have fun. Contact us for more information.

 

Lower Mainland:

  • Computer Centre: Thanks to a major gift from IBM Canada, CNIB Vancouver has a computer centre which allows people with vision loss who do not have access to a computer to become familiar with a variety of PC-based adaptive technologies. Adaptive software allows persons with vision loss to use computers much like their sighted peers. Contact CNIB in Vancouver for more information.

    • Success Forum: Organized by CNIB’s Career and Employment Services, the Success Forum is held the last Tuesday of every month from 6:30 – 8:30 pm at CNIB in Vancouver. People with vision loss who are working or looking for work meet to discuss employment-related issues and hear a guest speaker. The evening also includes door prizes and refreshments.
