Walter Gretzky CNIB Golf Classic
2009 Highlights
2009 proved to be a great year for golf in Alberta with the first ever Walter Gretzky Golf Classic held in Red Deer, Alberta June 17th.
The event, presented by Stantec Consulting, featured our Honorary Chair, Walter Gretzky along with other prominent personalities such as Jamie and Patti Salé, Chris and Paul Mason, and Brian and Shaun Sutter, all Honorary Co-Chairs of the reception held the evening before.
The theme of the reception and tournament was “Mentorship,” in honour of the key role CNIB plays in mentoring people with vision loss in Red Deer, and in recognition of the many benefits of mentoring relationships between co-workers, parent and child, teacher and student, and others.
The two day event raised over $86,000 for CNIB’s vital programs and services for people living with vision loss.
The Walter Gretzky CNIB Golf Classic held in Edmonton was presented by Quikcard with Honorary Co-Chairs Lyle Best and Al Hamilton. This year's event was highlighted by the radio auction on 1260 The Team Sports Radio. The bidding climaxed in the last 10 minutes when the top two bidders went head to head on air. It concluded with the two top bidders each donating $14,500 for a foursome each. The winners and their teams enjoyed an afternoon of golf and dinner with Walter. Through the kind donations of sponsors, golf participants and volunteers, CNIB raised over $55,000.
