JHLT Scholarship for Class Action Members
The Jericho Hill Legacy Trust (JHLT) was created in 2004 as a result of a class action lawsuit against the Province of British Columbia. There are currently four scholarships funded by the JHLT to reduce barriers to post-secondary education for Deaf students and students living with vision loss.
Scholarship for Class Action Members - The JHLT offers scholarships up to $6,250 per academic year to class members who are taking 2 to 4 year college or university programs. Scholarship amounts can cover tuition to a maximum of $6,000 per academic year and a book and travel allowance of up to $2,500 per academic year.
This scholarship was established in October 2006 and is available to all Class Members, Deaf, Blind or Deaf blind, regardless of where they currently live. The first successful applicant for the scholarship is Linda Ryall of Oshawa, Ontario. Linda is taking the American Sign Language and Literacy Instructor Program at George Brown College in Toronto. Linda began the two-year program in June 2006. She made the Dean's List for the Winter 2007 Semester.
