Scholarship for BC Students with Visual Impairments
The Jericho Hill Legacy Trust is a $2 million trust fund that was established as a result of the settlement of a class action lawsuit by deaf students and students with vision loss abused at Jericho Hill School in Vancouver between 1950 and 1992.
This $2,000 JHLT-VI Scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduating student who best exemplifies leadership activities and community service. The Provincial Resource Centre for the Visually Impaired (PRCVI) administers this scholarship on behalf of the JHLT.
Matthew Tucker (18) of Abbotsford, BC is the first recipient. Matthew graduated in June 2007 from W. J. Mouat Secondary School, Abbotsford, in June 2007 with an excellent academic honours record. He has been accepted into the Bachelor of Arts program at Trinity Western University, Langley, in September 2007. His eventual goal is to pursue a Masters in Psychology. In spite of many challenges that he has had to face, Matthew has excelled in many leadership roles and community activities in school, church and in his municipality of Abbotsford, B.C.
