Job Title: Program Lead, Accessibility Technology

Term: Part Time

Location: Thunder Bay, ON

Summary: 

Reporting to the Manager, Program Development and Operations, this position will play a key role in changing the lives of Canadians with sight loss by promoting access and awareness of accessible technology.  

Essential Duties entail (but not limited to):

Create and lead an amazing team: 

Recruit, orient, engage and actively manage a team of volunteers who will promote awareness of accessible technology, raise public awareness around accessibility and support local program needs and operations
Ensure CNIB is the organization of choice for volunteers by demonstrating our commitment to best practice in volunteer engagement
Develop and foster an inclusive, empowered culture where every team member – staff and volunteer – feels their contributions towards our mission are equally valued and respected
Lead by example in bringing our CNIB values to life  
Assist in developing partnerships in the technology sector to better support the needs of people with sight loss

Develop, deliver and monitor best-in-class programs:

Assist in developing and delivering new "technology focused" programs to those with sight loss, to be delivered in both a group environment, as well as one to one
Assist in providing access to leading vendors of assistive technology through tech fairs, and other demonstration opportunities
Promote awareness of provincial and national accessibility technology discussion groups and resources, as well as other specialized products for people with sight loss
Assist in implementing plans to maximize the success of the accessible technology in our foundation programs and grow existing CNIB programs in accessible technology, including SHOP CNIB   
Manage an outcome evaluation process, reviewing evaluation data to improve programs, customer service and participant outcomes  
Keep abreast of new technology as well as best practices and new developments in programming for people with sight loss, creating opportunities to share this knowledge with participants, staff and volunteers 
Increase public awareness of assistive technology through public speaking engagements, health fairs, workshops and other community events 
Develop and implement operational standards to ensure policies, procedures and practices respond to changing conditions in the marketplace and improve efficiency and competency
Assist with the management your program's budget
Engage and empower participants:
Champion CNIB's high standards for participant and customer service 
Build strong, positive relationships with program participants, and seek insight into their unique needs and goals 
Refer program participants to other CNIB programs and services, offering opportunities to expand their support network and increase community engagement

Build strong relationships:

Develop and steward strong and effective partnerships with community organizations and funding organizations that can further our mission 
Work closely with CNIB’s Philanthropy team to maximize donor investment in this program providing information and support for various types of appeals and impact reports, and liaising directly with prospective and existing donors to secure, retain their philanthropic and/or volunteer support
Act as a key local ambassador for CNIB, representing and promoting the organization at all relevant external events 

Qualifications: (Education, Training, Experience):

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

Knowledge and experience working with individuals, of all ages, with vision loss
Extensive knowledge in accessibility and adaptive technology, including applications for mobile devices
Proven ability to foster a sense of team and build strong relationships 
Proven ability to develop relationships with community groups stakeholders 
Experience in providing training/coaching on accessible technology to people with vision loss 
A track record of successful volunteer engagement 
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a focus on customer service
Ability to champion diversity and accessibility issues 
Experience in developing program delivery models
Experience in delivering training workshops and devising and delivering presentations
Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications
Expert level knowledge in computer software and willingness to learn new software (e.g. CRM systems)
Excellent analytical, problem definition and problem-solving skills
Proven time management, planning, coordinating and organization skills; proactive in initiating multiple projects on an ongoing basis
Professional attitude, results oriented, strategic and flexible

Experience and Education:

Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field or equivalent experience
3-5 years of experience with accessibility technology   
Knowledge and experience working in a not-for-profit or charity
Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and vision loss is considered an asset

Work Environment

Willingness to work flexible hours
Willingness to work from different locations
Moderate travel will be required
